How could I choose a perpendicular direction to an imported plane or surface to use that axis as a spot light?

I need some urgent help!
Thank you so much

Hi,

Doesn’t it work if you create an extra cylinder in your model perpendicular to your plane/surface and turn that into a spotlight into KeyShot?

Thank for your help.
The thing is, that plane is a led, but the light direction is not in the native axis. And when I put the spot light into the green plane, the spot light choose the native axis. But I need the light perpendiculari to the green plane.

What I meant was to add an extra cylinder in your model where the led is like this:

You import it in KS so it looks like this:

Than you turn the cylinder into a spotlight and it will have the right angle:

Things like this I also often use if I want to animate things around certain pivot points. I just place spheres at those locations so I can easily tell KS on what pivot the animation should work. Of course they are just turned off for render but it helps you get stuff faster together in KS.

Nice thank you.
But , how did you create the cilinder perfectly perpendicular to the plane.
Is possible to choose the plane to create the cilinder on that direction?
That is the thing, I need a perfect perpendicular angle between led and cylinder.

I’m not sure if you created the plane in KeyShot, if you did you can just create a cylinder at the same time. So if you move the plane in position, just have the cylinder also selected.

If you’ve an existing model with the planes already in an angle I often do an export to fbx for example and use a 3d modeller to add the cylinders/pivots etc exporting only those and import them back in KS.

It would be nice if KS had some aligning tools for these kind of things.

Thanks.

The led position and angle is imported.

So if you already have planes in angle and the properties of that element won’t show you the angle anymore (depends a bit on the file/way of export) I would just export the planes and use a 3D modeller to model a cylinder on the planes since every 3D modeller has some way to align objects.

Yes,
I Import his cylinder using the plane to design it.
But when I import them to KS, KS use the native axis when I put the spot light.

Change the material of the cylinder to spotlight

Always KS put the light into Z direction

That’s odd, it could be caused by how you rotated the cylinder in the modeller. I use MODO to model but I can select all polygons and rotate those but if I rotate that way the local axis of the object will still be at the origin.

If I rotate the cylinder using ‘object’ mode and I rotate it, I will actually rotate/move it’s local axis.

Think it has to do with that. You may also export the plane as fbx and I see if I can add a cylinder and get it back to you.

Thank you.
How can I send you the file?

I’ve send you a PM back, think it should work. Good luck!
